About two years before starting CrossFit, I was in poor health. I was significantly overweight, stressed, and couldn't do a single pull up. My wife motivated me to make a change so I changed my diet, began lifting weights and running. I set a goal to run a 1/2 marathon by October and a full by the following January. I saw a lot of success and really enjoyed it. But, I was in a very strict routine with no variance and working out in my garage alone. I knew if I wanted to continue, I needed something with variety and camaraderie. A had vaguely heard about CrossFit from a magazine and had looked at the main website before calling and setting up an early morning appointment to check it out with Paula at the old box.

I was extremely skeptical when Paula sat down with me and told me I would see better results if I did less and ate more. I was also very impressed with the morning coach at the time, Taylar Stallings. Now, I'm even more impressed with Taylar and I've swallowed a whole lot of CrossFit Kool-Aid. I've bought into Paula's nutritional recommendations and I stick with the programming for the most part.

My first "achievement" was making a lot of friends at the box. And right now I'm focusing on just having fun.

There are too many. They are all watching people succeed. Seeing my daughter do well in the nutrition challenge; watching my wife do box jumps in the morning; watching John Mason handstand walk across the turf; seeing Chip's PR banana continue to work (I think it may really be the Fireball); seeing Melissa hit a world record; seeing Tasha getting a one hand handstand; Brad hit a PR in deadlift. There is something every day to smile about.
