Michael came to CF Jag almost 3 years ago; he had gone to the gym sporadically over the years but had never really been athletic since playing soccer at as a kid. Lean by nature he wanted to get into better shape and from what he heard about CrossFit he wanted to give it a try. His wife bought him a Groupon for his birthday and he was hooked from day one!

His first impression was one of being incredibly challenged finding a physical limit each day. His first workout involved weighted lunges and he had trouble sitting down for a week

As he learned more about CrossFit he really grew an appreciation and respect for how mentally challenging it is. The level of perseverance and mental strength required to make it through some of the WODS has had an impact on his life in general. He’s becoming very interested in the physics of the Olympic lifts and how much weight people are capable of lifting with the right technique.

One thing he was surprised to find was “such an amazing and supportive community”. The level of care, support, encouragement and friendship Jag members show each other on a daily basis (and especially in moments of struggle) inspires him.

His first accomplished goal which he had for a VERY long time was getting a muscle up. With athletics not “coming naturally” to him it took months of practicing after the WOD, private lessons and hours of coaching advice and watching You Tube videos. But getting that first one was “definitely a memorable moment” for him.

Setting goals and working towards them is what keeps Michael going. He is currently working on: 10 consecutive muscle ups, a 225# full clean and a 175# full snatch. We have no doubt he will achieve them all!

With so many great Jaguar memories it’s hard for Michael to pick just one. Recently when teammate Alex outlasted the other two competitors at Barbell Wars to cinch the 2nd spot for Team Cuban Sandwich (Brian H, Alex and Michael) stands out for sure.
